2nd Annual Wheeling Ratha Yatra Festival – Ancient Celebration in the Ohio Valley!
Thousands of attendees expected at this colorful festival
ISKCON New Vrindaban, home of the Palace of Gold, will host its 2nd annual Wheeling Ratha Yatra festival, formerly known as the Festival of India, on Saturday July 8th, 2017 from 3pm to 9pm at the Heritage Port in Wheeling, West Virginia. The Ratha Yatra festival is an ancient Indian cultural event, celebrated by millions of people all over the world to promote global peace.
Swami Prabhupada, founder of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), first introduced this festival in the United States in 1967. That first festival took place in San Francisco and now has spread all over the world including major cities such as New York, Washington D.C., Los Angeles, London, Paris, Toronto, Sydney, Berlin, Tokyo, Delhi, and many more. For the second consecutive year, ISKCON New Vrindaban, a branch of ISKCON, will be celebrating this festival in Wheeling, West Virginia!
This free festival will start at 3pm with a cultural program consisting of live music, Indian classical dance, yoga classes and meditation sessions. There will also be supervised fun filled children’s activities throughout the day.
At 5pm everyone is invited to join in and pull the colorful chariot along the parade route. The parade will begin in front of the WesBanco Arena, weaving throughout the downtown and ending at the Heritage Port. A free vegetarian dinner will be served at the festival site at 7pm, followed by various entertainment programs. All vendors including food and drinks will be open from 3pm to 9pm.
This year, we anticipate around three thousand people throughout the day for this fun filled family friendly festival. Please join us to make this festival a memorable event. The festival venue is located at Heritage Port, Wheeling, West Virginia.
