A cow that has never given birth is called a “heifer.”  New Vrindaban has just added two new heifers to its milk herd, bringing the number up to six.  Moreover, both heifers are pregnant and due to give birth within the next two months.  After giving birth, the cows will each produce 6 – 8 gallons of milk per day, which be used for cooking for Radha Vrindabanchandra and Their servants.   

The two cows are named Anjali Soma and Asha Soma.  “The donor does not want his own name publicized,” says Jaya Krsna das, Community President.  “But he definitely wants us to publicize the names his children helped picked out!”
“Anjali Soma and Asha Soma are both extremely gentle,” continues Jaya Krsna.  “They are both Brown Swiss, a breed which is known for its gentle temperament, but these cows have been treated extremely well so they are particularly sweet and good with children.”


In the spiritual world, Krsna spends His days happily swimming in the Yamuna River, exploring the caves of Govardhan Hill, and herding the cows.  Nanda Maharaja, Krsna’s father, has one million cows.  “In Goloka Vrindaban in the spiritual world, Krsna and His Brother Balarama go out all day and serve the cows,” explains Jaya Krsna.  “New Vrindaban is non-different than Goloka Vrindaban.  Therefore, anyone who serves the cows of New Vrindaban receives 1,000 times the benefit of service done elsewhere.”
