Lord Balaram
Balaram (बलराम, Balarāma), also known as Baladeva, Balabhadra and Haladhara, is the elder brother of the Supreme Lord Sri Krishna. Within Vaishnavism and a number of South Indian, Hindu traditions Balaram is worshipped as an avatar of Vishnu, and He is also listed as such in the Bhagavata Purana. Within both the Vaishnava traditions and Hinduism generally He is acknowledged as being a manifestation of Shesha, the serpent on whom Vishnu rests.
The Bhagavata Purana describes Krishna as the original Supreme Personality of Godhead from whom everything else emanates. As part of this divine 'emanation', Krishna's very first expansion is Balaram, and from Balaram all other incarnations of God then appear. Balaram is also celebrated as Adi-Guru, the original spiritual master for all living beings and all others who play role of spiritual masters (or guide) are suppose to be representing Him.
That same Lord Balaram appears in this world before Lord Krishna's appearance. He appears to assist Krishna in His pastimes and is eternal servant of Krishna. Balaram's appearance day is on Tuesday, August 24th 2010 and will be celebrated in New Vrindavan on the same day. You are invited to participate in the festival.
