Deity Department Highlights and Update
In the Bhagavad-gita (9.26) Krishna states: “If one offers Me with love and devotion a leaf, a flower, fruit or water, I will accept it.”
Therefore, Krishna assumes the Deity form to accept our service and offerings of love and devotion. Love is the main ingredient, but even if adequate love is missing, Deity worship fans our personal relationship with Krishna and rekindles our love for Him. Srila Prabhupada wonderfully describes this further:
“This is very important business, Deity worship. The more the Deity is decorated, the more your heart will be decorated with Krishna consciousness.” (Srila Prabhupada Letter, November 10, 1975)
At New Vrindaban we strive to maintain a high standard of Deity worship as directed by Srila Prabhupada. We hope that our goals to improve our quality of service will decorate our hearts with Krishna’s love.
Update for 2018
Last year we began our efforts to renovate and rearrange different aspects in the Deity department. We moved Sri Sri Laksmi Nrsimhadeva and the Nrsimha Sila from the main altar to the Sri Nrsimhadeva altar, and only one pujari started worshiping Sri Sri Radha Vrindaban Chandra, Sri Sri Radha Madhava, and Chota Radha Vrindaban Chandra together. To assure a high standard of worship, we also decided that every Deity has their personal pujari to care for their paraphernalia. We also introduced the New Vrindaban Pujari Manual for all pujaris to follow, which was compiled by Mandali Devi Dasi in 2007. As a result, every pujari now follows the same standard and procedures of worship. Every new pujari receives additional training by the head pujari, Vilasini Dasi.
Furthermore, the Deity dressing room is being better organized. The Deity outfits and jewelry are protected in bags against breakage and dust, and selected jewelry are being fixed. Some Deity outfits are also being renewed with new Velcro or stitching.
“Dhara’s Room” has been renovated and used as the place of worship for Radha Vrindaban Chandra, Radha Vrindaban Nath, Radha Madhava, and Chota Radha Vrindaban Chandra. It is also a storage room for Srimati Tulasi Devi’s skirts and Srila Prabhupada’s outfits.
The new head of the Deity kitchen is Sri Radha Devi Dasi.
Goals for 2019
To further improve our standards, we have set goals for the new year. We plan to further organize and arrange the dressing room to facilitate better worship. We will continue the restoration of outfits; arrange a new sewing team that will design and sew Deity outfits at New Vrindaban; have an exposition of all outfits made at New Vrindaban; collect our own funds for the extra needs of the Deity’s care and worship; and continue with pujari training programs by inviting leading pujaris from other parts of the world to enlighten and train New Vrindaban pujaris.
Please support our efforts to serve and please the Lord and receive His blessings in the new year.
